Mr. Garth Likes
President & CEO

Over the past 25 years Mr. Likes has worked with a number of biotech, Pharma and diagnostic companies ranging from start up/pre IPO/public fortune 500 companies in areas of:

  • New Product & Business Development/Commercialization/Sales Management, Strategic & Tactical marketing/Operations Management /Corporate Financing
  • Is currently Chairman of the Merger and Acquisition committee, member of the Audit Committee and board member of LAB Research International , (TSX:LRI)
  • He was co-founder of Helix Biopharma (TSX :HBP)
  • Founder of PDI BioScience Inc, a private scientific product development and distribution company.
  • He has served at senior levels as a biotech consultant to numerous public and private biotechnology companies.

Mr. Likes has practical experience in:

  • Product development & commercialization – diagnostics/ therapeutics/ instrumentation/ bioreagents, clinical trials process/QA,QC
  • Operations, project and marketing management of various sized companies
  • Structuring a number of successful business deals, in and out licensing, mergers & acquisition
  • Technology transfer from University /Government research labs/development & commercialization thereof
  • Raising capital for corporate financings

His technical & academic knowledge encompasses a B.Sc and M.Sc. plus work-related experience with projects in Cancer, Immunology, HIV, Cell/Microbiology, Infectious Disease.

Professor Christian Petzelt
Chief Scientific Officer

Professor Petzelt graduated with a PhD from the University Munster in Germany. Professor Petzelt’s main research focus has been the study of the regulation of cell cycle and initiation of cell death. His experiences and accomplishments include being:

  • Founder and Head of the International Laboratory of Marine Biology, Ile d’Yeu, France, from 1988 – 1995, where he made important discoveries related to cyplasin.
  • 15 years at the German Cancer Research Center, Heidelberg, Germany, Professor of Cell Biology at the University of Heidelberg
  • Associate Professor of Cell Biology at Humboldt University Berlin since 1996 and in parallel;
  • Head of Experimental Anaesthesiology at the University Hospital Charite, Berlin from 1995 to 2005
  • Founder of MARINPHARM in 2004, which generates genetically modified cell lines for cancer research applications.

Professor Petzelt’s experiences include an extensive list of publications; he is a member of the Cell Biology Panel of UNESCO/ICRO and a member of the Editorial Board of “Cancer Cell International.”

Professor Petzelt has extensive scientific credentials. Based on his work on cyplasin he holds two patents on the cyplasin molecule.

In addition Professor Petzelt has been issued two other patents on previous work based on his discoveries how to protect the human brain from the consequences of stroke and brain damage caused by low oxygen. These inventions are presently in their final stages of commercialization.
